Modular data acquisition system

The VOXELGRID system for on-site acquisition is modular and consists of three areas. By controlling, monitoring and coordinating the individual measuring instruments, the operating system acts as the core of the acquisition system.

VOXELGRID Devices

Depending on the area of application, different devices are used. For indoor collection, we use trolley and backpack systems that we have developed in-house. In the outdoor area we use drones. Depending on customer requirements, the devices are equipped with various sensors and cameras that capture geometric information, material properties and image material. The additionally attached measuring and control instruments serve to link the individual data sets in the next step, the processing.

LIDAR

Light Detection and Ranging is a method for measuring distances using laser beams, originally used in the field of autonomous driving. The sensors generate 300,000 points per second, which are then processed in our software program using a temporal-spatial assignment. The result is the digital twin of your building as a point cloud.

Hyperspectral analysis

Different materials reflect radiation to different degrees depending on the respective wavelength in the electromagnetic spectrum. Accordingly, each material has its unique spectral signature. VOXELGRID has identified the characteristic curves of reflected radiation of building materials and, based on them, has created a unique library of radiation properties of all common building materials. Following a measurement, the recorded intensity diagram is automatically analyzed and assigned to the known materials. VOXELGRID can thus automatically detect materials of buildings with centimeter accuracy for the first time worldwide.

Photogrammetry

VOXELGRID uses drone images to generate pixel fields that record information about the proportion of red, green and blue light. The data of the visible wavelength spectrum are stored and subsequently correlated by triangulation. The distance from two points in space to a third point is determined by the angle of the different viewing directions. After all images have been correlated with each other, the result of the exterior scan is created: the digital twin as a colored 3D point cloud.

360° photo

The lens of the 360° camera we use in the interior captures every subtlety, guaranteeing the maximum level of detail in the implementation. Following the recording, the photos are automatically assigned to the respective rooms, as the exact position of the camera in the room is known at the time of recording. The advantage: Not only do you receive reliable information about the technical building equipment of your property, but you can also virtually walk through your property and take a look around, analogous to the well-known Google Street View.

Step 2 Data Processing

The determined data is read out by the acquisition platform with our self-developed software. The points generated during the measurement are assembled into point clouds using SLAM algorithms. Now the point clouds can be scaled and cut on different planes. The individual slices are then converted into CAD plans in the drawing program.

Step 3 Plan Creation

With just a little touch of human intervention, plan templates are converted into finished 2D and 3D models. In the interior, vectorization and object recognition save a considerable amount of time compared to the classic approach. Plan attributes are recorded automatically. Facade plans require only minimal drawing effort thanks to Deep Learning. As a result, the automation of processes ensures maximum error reduction and the highest level of quality for our products. We deliver data for your existing systems: in the desired format Auto-CAD, Archi-CAD and Revit. Through our interface to SAP, customers can easily view 2D and 3D plans in their ERP system.
